Happy Spring Equinox!

Spring is here! With most of the snow now melted, life on the farm has undoubtedly quickened its pace. We’re grateful for the rest that winter provides and excited to cultivate both nourishment and beauty in the season ahead!

Spring is here! With most of the snow now melted, life on the farm has undoubtedly quickened its pace. We’re grateful for the rest that winter provides and excited to cultivate both nourishment and beauty in the season ahead!

We knew the spring thaw would be interesting but this was intense! 🌊
Made for a very fascinating walk and the dogs had a blast!

Would have preferred a slower melt to help protect the shore lines and river banks but we do the best we can. Our perennial cover and swales have definitely helped a lot with protecting the top soil from running off and we notice only a few gullies coming down the slopes.

Now onto the growing season 🌱

Earlier this year we threw a few sprouted potatoes on the ground and covered it with a pile of hay and a few months later we pulled out these potatoes 😄

Potatoes are not something that we grow on a large scale as we are not set up for it and we are blessed to have amazing farmers close by that provide us with this delicious staple that lasts for many months 🏆

We call these snacking potatoes!

While some crops didn't perform as well as expected, others have exceeded our hopes and more than made up for it. 🏆

We utilized various strategies to tackle weed and pest pressure, which has helped us manage the gardens effectively, even during the dog days of summer. 🌞🐞

Additionally, we’ve been diving into nutrient management, ensuring that each stage of the crops' growth cycle is supported. 🌿 Instead of just applying compost at the start of the season, we're now providing targeted nutrients throughout the growth period. 🌾

As a result, our plants are strong and resilient, thriving and producing delicious food that will nourish us in the months to come. 🍅🥦✌️

Leo showed us he is now a big boy by going for his first solo swim!

We celebrated his birthday with a delish lamb dinner and followed by yummy ice cream 😋

Lately, we've been getting eggs in a beautiful variety of colors and sizes!

The colors come from our diverse flock, featuring many breeds that give us white🤍, blue 🩵, green 💚, cream lo, brown 🤎, and even chocolate-colored eggs.

The different sizes are due to the varying ages of our birds. The small egg is from a young hen just starting her egg-laying journey, while the largest one is likely from one of our older hens who doesn't lay as often anymore.

Each of these eggs (and all our eggs) came from happy and healthy hens that are very loved 💕
